Each time I write about the clash between Islam and the West, I implore moderate Muslims to speak up.
Wafa Sultan is a Syrian American psychologist who lives in Los Angeles. This interview on Al Jazera has made her an international sensation. She says what we all think more eloquently than I could ever write here.
I stand in ovation, with a tear in my eye that there is, perhaps, some hope in the world.
Chester's been around. A lot. He's probably exceeded the maximum safe number of airline meals as defined in EU Regulations, and he's definitely gone over the maximum marriage limit as set down by People Against Insanity. He doesn't travel much any more... he just pontificates. His thoughts are here.

For those interested, Wafa Sultan's website can be found at www.wafasultan.org.
WOW. this is amazing and she is amazing and her speech is fucking amazing. incredible and amazing. thanx CTB :)
Finally. You could tell though that the second guy in the interesting hat wanted nothing to do with her and her comments. She has quite the uphill battle but she's right in all she says. Go her.
Awesome. I'm posting this too.
that 2nd chap just wasn't listening - he doesn't want to know - that's the problem. She may well be open to the beliefs and differences of others - unfortunately, those others won't reciprocate.
I can't see the video, but if you have hope, then I have hope.
Well, she certainly speaks her mind. And she is largely correct.
The only points I would differ on are her easy labelling of Christians as 'people of many books'. If only that were true. Many Christians in the US and elsewhere are extreme fundamentalists who do not read books, who benefit from advances in science and medicine whilst opposing knowledge and science. They are people who misread and misunderstand the only book they do read, and are as fundamentalist as the extremist Muslims. And yes, they do burn down things which represent beliefs they oppose. From abortion clinics to Harry Potter books.
And at least partially influenced by that mindset, the US government do things like invading Iraq.
So some of so-called 'civilized' Christianity is as backward thinking as its Islamic equivalent. It too lives in the 14th century.
